Coming Home Get Together

We left the hospital around 5:00 PM. Usually they discharge you around 11am cause they need the rooms, but they weren't busy so we didn't rush home! That night we had a full house in our little cozy apartment. Bryce's entire family came over with dinner and my mom, dad and sister too. Then Auntie Jojo and Uncle David called to see how we were and we invited them to come over too. The more the merrier. We had 15 people in our apartment...the most ever! It was a fun night to welcome home our darling daughter.

Uncle Justin finally got to hold the baby!

Auntie Jojo...after she hand sanitized her hands! EVERYONE had to and still has to clean their hands if they want to hold the baby!

Grandma Momi and Aubree

Aubree and her Aunties

This is Auntie Mayumi...Aubree's namesake!

Our apartment looks big!

After everyone left, we took pictures of Aubree in her crib. She got her stuffed bear from Leeah Tano and the other stuffed animal from her Uncle Jared, my brother.

Going Home

It was Sunday and time to go home! One of the items on our list of things to bring was an outfit for Aubree to go home in. My sister, Amethyst, gave us a panda outfit so we decided to use that. For those of you that don't know, I LOVE pandas...hehe! So Aubree may have more panda stuff than the normal baby.

 Our first family picture!

The nurse came in to help us with the car seat. It's a hospital policy that you can't leave with the baby without a car seat and the nurse has to make sure you are putting the baby in correctly. It was actually kind of tricky because she was soooo tiny!

Aubree in the Hospital

We took so many pictures of her in the hospital. And it seemed like she looked different every time. We were just so happy to have her in our lives so we wanted to document everything! She was so tiny, she didn't even feel real. It was like having a china doll as our daughter!

Our Time in the Hospital

We were in the hospital from Friday til Sunday. This is the first time I've been admitted to the hospital. My favorite part was the hospital bed. I was so sore, but having an automatic bed made things so much easier! And someone mentioned to bring my own pillow and I'm so glad I did...definitely on my list of things to bring next time. Things on my list not to bring...stuff to keep me busy cause I pretty much just slept the entire time!

Bryce stayed the entire time in the hospital with me. He got to camp in those super comfortable...NOT... chairs that turn into a bed. He brought his own pillow and blanket too!

It was kind of nice to have all the extra help in the hospital. The nurses would change her and clean her. Everyone told me to take advantage of that in the hospital, especially at night. So we sent her to the nursery at night! On Saturday, we (actually Bryce because I couldn't get out of the hospital bed without being in pain) started to change Aubree's diaper.

First time changing her diaper...and it was a stinky one!

The next time he changed her diaper.... As soon as Bryce took off the old diaper to put on a new one, she started to use the bathroom! Oops...and we realized that this is what she likes to do, even now. And sometimes we're not prepared. Haha!

Another great thing about the hospital was the food. I know everybody says hospital food is so gross, but I didn't mind it at all. And every meal, you could choose all kinds of foods. We had the main dish, plus saimin, dessert, soup, fruits, roll, sandwich...and this is just lunch! And in between meals, I would get hungry so I just had to ring my nurse's bell and request for more food. On Saturday night we got a celebratory meal. The hospital cooked dinner for me and Bryce. We had chicken cordon blue with cheesecake for dessert. The funny thing was that the main dish option for Saturday night was teriyaki steak. We were kind of disappointed because we love steak! But the cheesecake was yummy!

Aubree's Visitors

Since we had Aubree so early in the morning, we were in our hospital room by 11am and the nurses brought Aubree in around 12.

Our first visitor was Auntie Colleen and she brought us a fruit basket!

Our second visitor was my brother, Jared. He gave Aubree a cute pink stuffed animal.

Bryce's family came and they were really excited to see the baby. Aubree is their first grandchild and niece.

Grandpa Dean Tano

Grandma Carol Tano

Auntie Emi

Auntie Mika, Uncle Justin and Uncle Jarem were also there, but they were kinda sick so they didn't get too close to the baby. We were so happy they all came to visit Aubree.

Aubree already has her own paparazzi!

My family came after. This is their second grandchild. My brother has a boy, Jaeden who is 2 years old.

Auntie Ame whispered to the baby, 'Welcome to the Family!'...so cute! Amethyst always has a way with babies. They always tend to smile at her!

The Grandpas

They brought us flowers, balloons and a stuffed panda bear!

The next day, Jan 23, 2010, we had more visitors...and Bryce's family came again!!

Cory and Lacie...They are engaged and are getting married this summer! Bryce is going to be Cory's best man. We can't wait until they have kids so they can all play together!

Gabby and Ahu...Bryce grew up with them. They have one son and are expecting another son in a few months. Our kids will be the same age!

I have to put my own dates because I'm so behind updating the blog. I have about a month's pictures to post!

Her name was Miyahana when she was born because my last name hadn't changed yet! But she definitely looked like a Tano.

Aubree Mieko Naheiakapuuwai Tano

Okay, I'm starting our blog from the day Aubree was born and going from there. Maybe one day I'll post pictures from before Aubree, but our life wasn't as interesting then! My due date was January 20 and the closer it got the more uncomfortable and grouchy I got. Bryce was a trooper and tried to make me as comfortable as possible. My doctor thought our daughter was going to come early and every week he would tell me 'I probably won't see you next week at our appt!'. But we made it to the appointments! And I wasn't really having contractions so I was so worried because I just wanted to give birth already. Finally on Jan 21 I started having more regular contractions, but they started out an hour apart. (The doctor told us to go to the hospital when my water broke or when my contractions were 5 mins apart.) Around 1 AM, the contractions were about 20 mins apart, but that was still not good enough so I endured the pain and we just got ready for bed. As we got ready for bed, my contractions started getting closer and closer. Bryce was timing them and they were only about 7 mins apart. I was in pain so I wanted to go to the hospital already. Bryce was saying 'But your contractions aren't 5 mins apart yet'.  I didn't care and we got ready for the hospital. Bryce was great and calm and would let me squeeze his hand whenever I had a contraction. While I was getting my bag and stuff ready, he made sure the apartment was clean. And then we were on our way to the hospital.

We got to the hospital around 4am and at 9:05 AM, our daughter was born. Once I got the epidural, I didn't feel anything. It was seriously the most comfortable I had been in 10 months! It was an amazing experience and when I saw Aubree, I was amazed, but still in shock that I had just given birth.

We decided to name her Aubree Mieko Naheiakapuuwai. We choose Aubree because initially I just liked the name, but it is actually the middle name of Bryce's younger sister, Mayumi Aubrey. We decided to spell it Aubree because my first name ends with 'ee' so we thought it would match! We found out that Aubree means 'Noble'. Bryce choose Mieko (実恵子). It means 'Child of Beauty and Kindness'. My dad came up with Naheiakapuuwai. It means soft/kind-hearted.

Aubree weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 21 inches. Bryce was able to follow the nurse while they cleaned her up. I could hear her crying, but I was still kind of out of it!

Our first reaction was 'She looks like a TANO!' and she has really really long eyelashes!
